Mungaka is the language of the **Bali Nyonga people** of the North West Region of Cameroon, with an estimated **500,000 speakers worldwide**. Native speakers call it *Chû Bà'nì*, meaning "the language of the Bali people." Mungaka is a **tonal language**, meaning the same word can carry entirely different meanings depending on tone. A single syllable can shift meaning completely: | Word | Meaning | |------|---------| | Ba | father | | Bǎ | the people of | | Bà | we / us | This tonal richness makes Mungaka a linguistically fascinating language — and one that deserves far greater representation in digital and AI language resources. --- ## Origins Mungaka evolved from a blend of **Mubako** — the language of the Bali Chamba who migrated from Northern Cameroon — and languages of the Western Region of Cameroon, most notably Bati. Since then, interest in reading and writing Mungaka has grown steadily, and the production of learning resources has accelerated. --- ## About This Repository This repository is part of an ongoing effort to build a **publicly accessible, AI-ready digital corpus** for Munga …
