African gut microbiome MOZAMBIQUE GUT-MICROBIOME Gut dysbiosis, defined as disruption in the balance of microbial communities, is highly complex, involving interactions between bacteria, archaea, fungi, and viruses. Current practices for taxonomic profiling often rely on 16S rRNA sequencing, which, while useful, offers limited resolution and cannot capture functional potential. More advanced methods such as shotgun metagenomics have been introduced, allowing direct sequencing of all genetic material and enabling higher resolution taxonomic and functional profiling. Recently, read-based meta genomic approaches have shown promise as computationally efficient alternatives to full genome assembly, enabling robust insights while reducing resource demands. Here, I propose a read-based shotgun meta genomic analysis of the human gut micro biome using existing datasets. This project will generate taxonomic and functional profiles, assess diversity patterns, and identify metabolic pathways associated with health and disease. Ultimately, it aims to provide reproducible workflows and comparative insights relevant to African populations and the wider scientific community.
