## Problem Statement
Egypt's coastal cities are facing a rapidly growing erosion and sea-level rise crisis, especially along the Mediterranean coast. Shorelines are shrinking, infrastructure is collapsing, and governments often respond only after disasters occur rather than preventing them early.
We want to become proactive rather than reactive.
Communities living in Alexandria, Kafr El-Sheikh, El Alamein, and other coastal regions are directly affected. Residents, businesses, tourism developers, engineers, environmental organizations, and government agencies all suffer from increasing risks to homes, roads, beaches, and investments.
The problem persists because coastal monitoring is still fragmented, slow, and largely reactive. Existing approaches depend heavily on manual observation, delayed reports, and limited forecasting capabilities. Decision-makers often lack real-time data and predictive insights needed for early intervention.
## Severity
- Egypt is ranked the 5th most vulnerable country to sea-level rise.
- Around 0.46 km² of coastline is lost every year.
- Kafr El-Sheikh's coastline has receded by nearly 840 meters since 1990.
- More than 280 buildings have collapsed in Alexandria due to coastal impacts.
- Approximately 7,000 buildings are currently at risk.
- By 2100, nearly 84 million people could be affected, with over 21 million facing displacement.
