AmaShona is an open digital knowledge platform focused on preserving, documenting, and making the Shona language and Zimbabwean cultural knowledge accessible. The project aims to become a reliable reference for Shona words, meanings, translations, idioms, proverbs, riddles, songs, and other cultural expressions. The long term vision is to build more than a dictionary. AmaShona will connect language and cultural knowledge in a structured, searchable, and community supported platform. ## Vision Much of Shona language knowledge exists in conversations, songs, books, families, and communities. Some of this knowledge is difficult to find online. Some meanings depend heavily on context. Some expressions can lose their meaning when translated literally. AmaShona aims to preserve this knowledge while it is still available and make it accessible to future generations. ## Core Areas ### Dictionary A structured collection of Shona words and their meanings.
