## π About the Project
**Witness Kenya** is an open-source, mobile-first civic media platform that empowers Kenyan citizens to document, verify, and hold leaders accountable for the state of public infrastructure and services across all **47 counties**.
Citizens can capture photo or video evidence of issues β from broken roads and dry water taps to crumbling school buildings β geotagged to their exact ward, constituency, and county. Every report is automatically linked to the responsible elected officials (MCA, MP, Governor, Senator), creating a transparent, crowd-sourced record that is difficult to ignore.
The platform uses a **weighted trust-scoring system** where the community verifies or disputes each report, building a confidence score for every piece of evidence. This creates a credible, self-governing ledger that journalists, NGOs, and policy makers can rely on.
> **"Accountability by design."**
