In urban centers such as Lagos, thousands of tons of waste go uncollected daily, creating environmental, health, and infrastructural risks. TrashBeta is a data-driven project that evaluates the feasibility of a centralized digital waste reporting platform. The project leverages citizen-reported data to uncover patterns in waste management failures, assess public readiness for digital reporting, and provide actionable insights for operational and policy improvement. --- ## Problem Statement Waste reporting in Nigeria operates across disconnected channels, including physical visits to local government offices, phone calls to waste operators, and informal complaints on social media. This fragmentation results in: - Lack of centralized reporting records - Limited visibility into problem locations - No structured resolution tracking - Weak accountability for service providers These challenges lead to persistent waste issues and reactive decision-making. --- ## Objectives The primary objective of this project was to validate the demand for a digital waste reporting platform using real citizen-generated data. Secondary objectives: - Collect at least 300 verified waste reports - Achieve broad geographic coverage across Nigeria - Measure willingness to adopt digital reporting tools - Identify waste management patterns and hotspots - Validate findings using secondary data sources --- ## Data Collection - Collection Period: December 19–31, 2025 - Total Responses: 301 - Geographic Coverage: 25 states - Focus Area: Lagos State (5 LGAs) Data was collected using a structured digital survey.
