# Rwanda Medical Student Journal (RMSJ) A starter platform for a national student-led open-access medical journal in Rwanda. ## What is included - Homepage with featured research, latest publications, and editorial highlights - Search and filter system for articles by keyword, category, year, and university - Article detail pages with DOI, abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, conclusion, and references - Author profiles and university pages - Static pages for submission workflow, guidelines, editorial board, and journal issues - JSON API endpoints for articles and search ## Run locally 1. Open a terminal in `medical_journal` 2. Create and activate a Python virtual environment: ```powershell python -m venv .venv .\.venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1 ``` 3. Install dependencies: ```powershell pip install -r requirements.txt ``` 4. Start the app: ```powershell python app.py ``` 5. Open `127.0.0.1` in your browser. ## Data storage - `data/articles.json` stores article records - `data/authors.json` stores author profiles - `data/universities.json` stores university profiles Sample data is seeded automatically on first run. ## How to extend this project - Add database support with PostgreSQL and Django or Flask SQLAlchemy - Implement author authentication with ORCID or Google login - Add file upload and manuscript submission handling - Create a peer review dashboard for reviewers and editors - Add article metrics, readership analytics, and download counters - Prepare content for ISSN and DOI workflows
