# The Merchandiser's Ledger — Learn Python on the Unilever Aisle
An eleven-lesson, self-paced Python tutorial themed around real merchandising
work at Khetia's Gigamart (Kitale): stock movements, deliveries, shelf counts,
promos and reorders. Everything runs in the browser — no Python installation
needed. Prices are in KSh; VAT is Kenya's 16%.
## Quick start
1. Open `index.html` in **Chrome or Firefox** (recommended — progress saving is
most reliable there when opening files directly).
2. Click lesson 1 and press ▶ Run on the first code box.
3. The **first** Run needs an internet connection and takes a few seconds while
Python (Pyodide) downloads. After that, runs are instant.
## Personalising it (do this first!)
Edit `assets/config.js`:

`LEARNER_NAME` appears in the masthead and on the audit report's signature
line — worth filling in.
**Note the apostrophe** in "Khetia's": Python examples that print the store
name use double quotes for exactly this reason (it's even a teaching moment in
lesson 1). If you edit code examples, keep strings containing the store name in
double quotes.
## The course arc
Lessons 1–4 build the basics on aisle jobs (signs, stock lines, margins, SKU
codes). Lesson 5 is a promo-stand till case study. Lessons 6–9 add decisions,
loops and functions through stock-status tiers, delivery check-ins and pricing
tools. Lesson 10 builds the aisle's stock database (her database and
merchandising-app experience is the scaffold). Lesson 11 is the capstone: an
**aisle audit program** — deliveries in, shelf counts taken, units sold and
sales value computed, reorders flagged — the "what happens next" of the app
that counted products from a shelf photo.
