Estimation of return periods and return levels of extreme rainfall in Yagoua, Cameroon using Extreme Value Theory and CHIRPS data. # Extreme-Rainfall-Yagoua ## Overview This repository contains the engineering thesis entitled: **Estimation of Return Periods and Return Levels of Extreme Rainfall in Yagoua, Cameroon** The study investigates extreme precipitation events in the city of Yagoua using Extreme Value Theory (EVT) and CHIRPS rainfall data. The Generalized Extreme Value (GEV) and Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD) models were applied to estimate rainfall return periods and return levels for flood risk assessment. ## Objectives - Analyze extreme rainfall variability in Yagoua - Estimate return periods and return levels - Apply GEV and GPD models - Support flood risk management and early warning systems ## Study Area Yagoua, Far North Region, Cameroon. ## Methods - CHIRPS precipitation dataset - Mann-Kendall trend analysis - Linear regression - Generalized Extreme Value (GEV) - Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD) ## Author **Adolphe Nguimo Takala** Meteorological Engineer at NATIONAL ADVANCED SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING OF MAROUA Master's Student in Climate Change Pan African University of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES), Algeria ## DOI 10.13140/RG.2.2.16410.81609
