## Overview
`ghana-fire-mismatch` is a reproducible Ghana fire mismatch analysis repository. It compares two complementary satellite fire evidence streams in a common spatial and monthly framework:
- **VIIRS active-fire detections**, treated as a thermal activity signal.
- **MODIS MCD64A1 burned area**, treated as a mapped burned-area impact signal.
The repository prepares spatial units and fire-observation panels, merges active-fire and burned-area evidence, and runs the Ghana MODIS burned-area and VIIRS active-fire mismatch analysis.
The public project contract is:

## Scientific scope
The project compares product signals, not product truth. The core interpretation rules are:
- VIIRS active fire is a thermal activity signal.
- MODIS MCD64A1 burned area is a mapped burned-area impact signal.
- The products are complementary, not interchangeable.
- VIIRS active fire is not treated as validation for MODIS burned area.
- MODIS burned area is not treated as validation for VIIRS active-fire detections.
- Mismatch states are observational classifications, not direct error labels.
- The workflow supports descriptive and diagnostic analysis; it does not identify causal drivers.
