Project Overview Ghana's electricity sector underwent a **19-fold increase in Scope 1 GHG emissions** between 2000 and 2024 — from 456 ktCO₂e to 8,756 ktCO₂e — driven by structural grid expansion that shifted the generation mix from hydro-dominated (~90% in 2000) to thermal-intensive (60.6% by 2024). Over the same period, GDP grew approximately 4× and population grew 1.75×. No economic decoupling from electricity-sector emissions has occurred.
