Research tool for tracking data center infrastructure, energy sources, and transparency gaps across African markets. Africa Data Center Research — Infrastructure Tracker This script collects and structures publicly available data on data center facilities across Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, and South Africa. It pulls live facility data from OpenStreetMap's Overpass API, combines it with a curated dataset compiled from corporate sustainability reports, regulatory filings, and local press archives, and outputs a clean CSV and JSON ready for research or visualization. The core assumption is that data will be incomplete. Corporate disclosures for African facilities are thin, regulatory reporting is inconsistent, and politically sensitive acquisitions often go undocumented. This tool treats those gaps as findings — a company that publishes detailed energy figures for its European facilities but nothing for its Lagos one is telling you something. The summary report surfaces those absences explicitly rather than quietly omitting them. Built as part of a research project on the environmental justice implications of data center expansion across the African continent.
