An app that aspiring South African musicians can use to meet each other, and blossom into something greater than themselves. As a music fan, I always found it cumbersome to find people who share a similar passion online, and/or in real life. For socially anxious artists/fans, "The Function" can be very intimidating if you don't know anyone there. Not to mention whether or not they're on your skill level (beginner or higher), and whether or not they're even willing to collaborate with you. Social media hashtags are an adequate solution, but an inefficient one. They can only do so much when it comes to narrowing down niches, and finding a person/people that are on a similar music journey to yours. It could plausibly take 5 minutes of doomscrolling to meet your match, it could just as plausibly take 5 hours. Point being it's unpredictable, therefore unsustainable. This app cuts through the noise, and enables aspiring musicians, engineers, managers, promoters and anyone else music adjacent to finally connect directly, and immediately, in order to foster a greater music culture in South Africa, no matter where you are in the country. The first version of this product is functionally a combination of meetup.com and Tinder. Unlike meetup.com, You don't scour various meet-ups in the music section that "kinda" resemble what you want. In Bandmate you can curate a meet-up that's specific to your genre preference, skill, difficulty level, and location when using the app's provided features. And unlike Tinder, you don't swipe through potential dates. Here, you swipe through potential collaborators that aren't vaguely in a similar position, but are specifically in the exact position you're currently in. The shy audiophile in their room who wants to form a community, or even just find one other person who gets "it" and them, but doesn't know any other musician in real life, and also loathes the infinite scroll down a nebulous (and corruptible) hashtag, finally has a solution.
