HerPath – A Mentorship & Peer Support Platform for Secondary School Girls in Underserved Communities in Nigeria # HerPath — Prototype (v0.1) A mentorship & peer support platform connecting secondary school girls in underserved communities in Nigeria with verified female mentors. This is the project setup — folders, tools, and empty scaffolding are ready. No feature pages are built yet. That's the next step. ## Folder structure ``` herpath/ ├── client/ → React frontend (Vite + React Router + Tailwind CSS) ├── server/ → Node.js/Express backend (Prisma ORM + PostgreSQL) ├── database/ → notes/seed scripts (Prisma actually manages the tables) └── docs/ → SRS document ``` ## Prerequisites You need these installed on your computer: - Node.js (v18 or newer) - PostgreSQL (running locally, or a free hosted one like Neon/Supabase) - Git ## 1. Set up the backend ```bash cd server npm install cp .env.example .env ``` Open `.env` and put in your real PostgreSQL connection string and a random JWT secret. Then create the actual database tables from our schema: ```bash npm run prisma:migrate ``` Start the backend: ```bash npm run dev ``` Visit localhost — you should see a JSON message saying the API is running. ## 2. Set up the frontend Open a **second terminal window** (keep the backend running in the first one): ```bash cd client npm install cp .env.example .env npm run dev ``` Visit the URL it prints (usually localhost) — you should see the placeholder HerPath page. ## Color palette - Powder pink: `#f8bbd0` (`bg-powder-pink` in Tailwind) - Milky white: `#fff8f0` (`bg-milky-white` in Tailwind) ## What's next See `docs/HerPath_SRS.pdf` for the full requirements.
