A reproducible survival analysis project investigating child mortality predictors in Nigeria using the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS). # Child Survival Analysis in Nigeria Using the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey ## Overview This repository contains the R scripts used to investigate the factors associated with child survival in Nigeria using data from the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS). The repository reproduces the analyses presented in the published study by Yussuf et al. (2025) and extends the work by fitting additional parametric survival models. Each stage of the analysis is organised into a separate script, allowing the entire workflow to be followed from data import to model comparison. The analyses include: * Data import * Data cleaning and variable recoding * Descriptive analysis * Kaplan Meier survival analysis * Cox Proportional Hazards regression * Testing the proportional hazards assumption * Replication of the published Gaussian Accelerated Failure Time model * Extension using Weibull and Log normal Accelerated Failure Time models * Comparison of the fitted survival models --- ## Repository status This repository accompanies a published study. Scripts 01 to 07 reproduce the published analyses. Scripts 08 and 09 extend the original work by fitting additional Accelerated Failure Time models and comparing their performance with the published models. --- ## Purpose of this repository This repository has two main purposes. The first is to reproduce the analyses reported in the published study by Yussuf et al. (2025). The second is to investigate whether Weibull and Log normal Accelerated Failure Time models provide a better description of child survival than the Gaussian Accelerated Failure Time model used in the published study.
