Despite legislative efforts like the 2017 plastic bag ban and the Sustainable Waste Management Act (2022), implementation remains limited. This results in hazardous dumping sites, such as Dandora, and contributes to air/water pollution, disease outbreaks, and infrastructure damage. ## 💡 The Solution "Waste Connect" is a web-based platform that empowers citizens to actively participate in urban environmental governance. ### How it works: 1. **Reporting:** Citizens spot a dumping site and use the app to submit a report, including the location and type of waste (e.g., plastic, toxic). 2. **Dispatch:** The system automatically routes the report to the appropriate waste management company or recycling firm based on the waste type. 3. **Collection:** The assigned company dispatches field workers to collect and safely transport the waste to recycling grounds. 4. **Feedback Loop:** Once the site is cleared, the system marks the report as "completed," and the reporting citizen receives a notification, ensuring their contribution leads to tangible action. ## 🛠 Tech Stack (Project Components) * **Platform:** Web-Based System. * **Primary Function:** Community-based reporting and service coordination. * **Target Users:** Kenyan citizens, waste management companies, and recycling firms. ## 👥 Project Team * **Gloria Maloba** (168878) * **Jaedon Jeremiel Munyua** (169684) ## 🏫 Institution **Strathmore University** School of Computing and Engineering Science Informatics and Computer Science ## 📚 References * Hussein, H.
