A preliminary Kohumono phonemic-to-orthographic word explorer developed using Adaption Labs. Kohumono Phonemic-to-Orthographic Word Explorer Project Overview This project presents a preliminary digital orthography resource for Kohumono, a language spoken in Ediba, Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. The project focuses on mapping Kohumono phonemic forms to their corresponding orthographic representations. It was developed as part of the AfricompLing/Adaption Labs project requirements and demonstrates the use of linguistic documentation and AI-based tools in developing digital resources for an underrepresented African language. Dataset The dataset contains 100 verified Kohumono lexical items. Each entry contains: Phonetic form Phonemic form Kohumono orthographic representation English meaning The data were derived from primary linguistic data collected during fieldwork for an undergraduate research project on Kohumono orthography. Although the project specification required a minimum of 5,000 samples, the final verified dataset was limited to 100 lexical items because of limited publicly available Kohumono linguistic materials, insufficient time to process the remaining 300 items from the original 400-word list, and the need for additional fieldwork to collect more data. Use of Adaption Labs Adaption Labs was incorporated into the project pipeline for dataset processing and interface development. For the Adaption workflow: Prompt: Kohumono phonemic form Context: English meaning Completion: Kohumono orthographic form The automated processing output was reviewed against the original linguistic dataset. Some outputs contained unsupported linguistic associations and encoding errors. Therefore, the original fieldwork dataset was retained as the authoritative linguistic resource. Kohumono Orthography Explorer A functional orthography explorer was developed using Adaption Labs. The explorer allows users to enter a Kohumono phonemic form and retrieve its corresponding orthographic representation, with the English meaning displaye …
