In Zimbabwe, the majority of citizens rely on public healthcare facilities where diagnostic capacity is often limited by equipment shortages, laboratory delays, high testing costs, and limited specialist availability. This creates a situation where healthcare workers frequently have to make decisions based on symptoms alone rather than objective diagnostic evidence. Delayed or inaccurate diagnosis can lead to delayed treatment, unnecessary medication use, worsening disease outcomes, and increased pressure on already constrained healthcare systems. The problem is particularly significant for infectious diseases, where early detection is critical for effective treatment and preventing complications.
