Analysis of Nigeria's electricity generation and distribution trends 2021-2024 using Python and data from NERC # Nigeria Power Sector Analysis 2021–2024 ## Overview An analysis of Nigeria's electricity generation, fuel mix, distribution performance, and generation capacity utilisation from the year 2021 to 2024. The data was sourced from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Annual Report 2024. ## Key Findings 1. Total generation in 2024 (36,406 GWh) remains below 2021 levels (37,084 GWh) 2. Thermal output declined by 3,000 GWh while hydro grew by 2,300 GWh 3. Hydro generation peaks in Q4, which is consistent with Nigeria's rainfall seasonality 4. Six of eleven DisCos received less energy in 2024 than in 2021 5. Nigeria's plants operated at only 49.3% of installed capacity in 2024 6.
