Grazing-Free Livestock Feeding Systems: Scalable, Peace-Enabling Climate-Smart Infrastructure for West Africa

This report presents a scalable framework for implementing grazing-free livestock feeding systems using indoor hydroponic fodder farms and agroforestry tree fodder across West Africa. These systems are designed to reduce herder–farmer conflicts, improve livestock health, and enhance environmental resilience. The paper outlines practical system designs, including modular hydroponic units and protein-rich tree fodder species, alongside operational deployment models that integrate AI-powered livestock monitoring via VetraOS. This climate-smart approach enables year-round feed supply, supports local economic development through co-op systems, and contributes to peacebuilding by reducing competition over land. The work includes policy recommendations, training considerations, and a pilot roadmap aligned with seasonal cycles and regional needs.
