Health and illness beliefs of neurodegenerative conditions in Africa: A Systematic Review Protocol.

Protocol AmendmentThis review was originally developed and registered as a scoping review on 18 July 2025: doi.org original protocol was developed as a scoping review as the evidence base was anticipated to be heterogeneous and understudied. Following further methodological consideration of the focused review question and the nature of the available evidence the review was amended to reflect a systematic review methodology.The review topic, population and broad focus were retained. However the review methodology was revised to enable the systematic identification, appraisal and synthesis of evidence addressing health and illness beliefs relating to neurodegenerative conditions and their influence on help-seeking in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Changes from the original protocol include the review design, methodological appraisal and data synthesis. The geographical scope was also refined from the African Continent to SSA.The original registered protocol remains available at the DOI above, and amendments are reported in the final review.
