IMPACT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT IN AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN LAGOS STATE

ABSTRACT This paper examined the impact of local government, being the third arm of government on agricultural development. The aim of the study is to produce document of value on the impact made so far. Likert 4-point scale questionnaire was used for the investigation. Results reveled that there is good record keeping and good intension on how make meaningful impact. However, it worth noting that the local governments have not make meaningful impact as they lack the financial base to fully carry out the action programmes and policy in place for agricultural development. Furthermore, lack of a standard research base, farm structure, good farm road and storage facilities have also limited the local government from fulfilling their role.
