Improving Library and Information Science Education in Nigeria

Emerging technologies are causing substantial changes in the education of Library and Information Science (LIS) in Nigeria. Considering the increasing need for tech skills in the information field, it is crucial to examine how smart technologies and AI can improve the education quality in LIS programs. This study seeks to investigate how smart technology and AI-powered tools are influencing LIS education in Nigeria, examining the advantages and obstacles of integrating these advancements into the educational system. The research is driven by three primary aims: assessing the impact of smart technologies on the educational experience in LIS courses, investigating obstacles to integrating AI-driven tools in LIS programs, and suggesting ways to enhance the utilization of these technologies in Nigerian schools. The results showed that smart technologies such as digital learning platforms and smart classrooms have improved involvement, teamwork, and academic achievement in LIS students.
