Baobab (Adansonia digitata L.) is an indigenous tree of global traditional importance. This study aimed to document indigenous knowledge on the use and conservation of A. digitata among the Berta ethnic group in Sherkole district. Conducted from September to December 2023, the study involved 90 households using semi-structured interviews, key informant discussions, focus groups, and guided field observations. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Eight main traditional uses were identified: food, fodder, medicine, fiber, hanging beehives, commerce, and soil improvement. The fruit pulp was most commonly used for food, beverages, and medicine, and was the only part sold commercially. Most respondents (26.7%) noted that baobab trees are abundant along riverbanks. Major threats to the species included livestock browsing, shifting cultivation, seed burning, deforestation, mining, and improper debarking. Conservation efforts and awareness programs are recommended, along with value addition and market linkages to enhance livelihoods and promote sustainable use.
