This dataset contains field-based individual tree measurements collected across Forest and Landscape Restoration (FLR) intervention areas in four African countries: Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, and Malawi. The dataset is organized by country, with separate tabs for each sampling site where data were collected. It includes 19 sampling sites in total: 8 in Kenya, 5 in Ghana, 4 in Rwanda, and 2 in Malawi, covering 190 one-hectare sampling plots.
The dataset contains 3,493 individual tree records representing 370 tree species. For each tree, the dataset includes plot-level, spatial, taxonomic, and structural attributes. The recorded variables include Site ID, Plot ID, plot center latitude, plot center longitude, date of data collection, tree ID matched to imagery, tree location from GPS latitude, tree location from GPS longitude, tree genus and species, tree diameter at breast height (DBH), crown long diameter, crown perpendicular diameter, and tree height.
This dataset represents a unique large-scale collection of simultaneous field measurements of tree stem and crown dimensions across African landscapes. The dataset is intended to support analyses of tree allometry, DBH-Crown relationships, forest and landscape restoration monitoring, validation of remotely sensed tree measurements, and calibration of DBH models from remote-sensing crown measurements for large-scale tree biomass estimation and regional assessments of tree diversity and structure across African landscapes.
