The dataset merges macroeconomic indicators with biographical data on African central bank governors from 1990 to 2023. It includes variables such as money growth, inflation, trade openness, fiscal regimes, and central bank independence. A key innovation of the dataset is the inclusion of each governor’s year of birth and country-level inflation crisis records, allowing the construction of indicators that capture early-life exposure to inflation crises. These were compiled using World Bank WDI data, Romelli’s (2022) central bank independence dataset, and hand-collected biographical details from official central bank publications and verified historical sources.
