Innovative Pedagogies

Institutions of higher learning are undergoing significant changes, driven by demands for transformation, inclusivity, and student success, alongside the pressures of government funding requirements. This chapter examines how higher education responds to students who come from backgrounds in which they have experienced various forms of adversity. Chiramba and Ndofirepi (2023) argue that students in South African higher education are shaped by the legacy of apartheid - a history fraught with challenges, including social and educational inequalities. This context highlights the critical need for resilience amongst both students and lecturers to ensure academic success in higher education.
