A good priority to emergency vehicles can be given only after Actuated to new technologies and
data infrastructure. Available solutions are known and can be combined and implemented
for adaptive traffic light management. Traffic solutions for public transport are used in many
countries and can be adapted and implemented on vehicles that are used by emergency services.
Finished solutions and algorithms for adaptive have implemented modules for priority of
emergency services , but are not used because of problems with vehicle detection. In this
study, we will see how can solve such like problem.
Crossing red traffic signals on busy intersections while, responding to an emergency is the most
dangerous scenario emergency services personnel face on a daily basis. Prior to reaching the
intersection, the emergency crew may have already allocated with the unpredictable reactions of
drivers who are queued at the red traffic signal and have attempted to move out of their way, or
had to travel on the wrong side of the road to pass traffic queued back from the intersection.
Analyzing Emergency Vehicles priority systems or considering the effects of certain signaling
PTV VISSIM allows you to simulate traffic patterns exactly. In this paper PTV VISSIM software
selected to simulation model. Motorized private transport, goods transport, rail and road related
public transport, pedestrians and cyclists as the world's leading software for microscopic traffic
simulation; PTV VISSIM displays all road users and their interactions in one model.
Through VISSIM software simulation it is proven that travel time of emergency vehicles becomes
shorter with optimization of traffic signals. Designed algorithms and vehicle to vehicle and
vehicle to infrastructure communication brings new period of adaptive traffic control. This
analysis of current state and technology that is already implemented in current traffic brings
immediate of possibilities.
Most important variable that shows actuated algorithm use on traffic light managed
intersections is average travel time through intersection. Total emergency services travel time
is measured for each direction and average values are calculated. In all directions average
travel time was 152.76 seconds and after implementation of adaptive algorithm travel time is
127.54 seconds which time shorter is by 25.22 seconds
