Inventory Management Practices and Service Delivery at Rwanda Medical Supply (RMS) Dataset.

Reliable healthcare service delivery depends on effective inventory management, yet evidence from African public health supply chains is limited. This study investigated the influence of inventory planning, inventory control, inventory information systems, and warehouse management on service delivery at Rwanda Medical Supply (RMS), the national agency responsible for health commodities. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted among 171 RMS employees across procurement, warehousing, information technology, and distribution departments. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression were used for analysis. Respondents rated inventory management practices and service delivery highly (all constructs >4.0 on a 5-point scale). Correlation analysis showed that all four inventory management dimensions were positively related to service delivery (p<0.001 for all). Regression results indicated that inventory planning (β = 0.225, p = 0.033), inventory control (β = 0.196, p = 0.018), and inventory information systems (β = 0.198, p = 0.011) had significant positive effects on service delivery, whereas warehouse management had a positive but non-significant effect (β = 0.142, p = 0.084). The model explained 40.4% of variance in service delivery (R² = 0.404). The findings suggest that strengthening planning, control, and information systems can substantially improve healthcare supply performance. This study contributes to the limited literature on healthcare supply chain management in Sub-Saharan Africa and provides evidence-based guidance for RMS and policymakers.
