The issue of efficient energy management is still critical in Somalia due to the limitation of infrastructure and the increasing cost of electricity. This study proposes an IoT-based smart electricity meter using an ESP32 microcontroller and the Blynk application for better energy management in Somalia's context, where infrastructural limitations and high costs of electricity impede. Traditional energy meters lack remote access and analysis capabilities, thereby completing the gap in empowering users to monitor and control their energy use effectively. This research, therefore, aims at the design of a low-cost smart meter that allows real-time tracking of electricity consumption through a mobile app, enabling users to avoid unnecessary consumption and manage costs more efficiently. The system involves an ESP32 microcontroller that collects the data on electricity usage and then sends it to the Blynk platform, so the user may also see and analyze the consumption on a device. The main findings indicate that the system increases access to usage data and thus empowers Somali households to make more informed energy decisions. This research gives rise to the implications that IoT-enabled meters can change energy practices in Somalia into efficiency and hence support sustainable development goals. It indicates that smart metering systems can give practical solutions for energy challenges and hence set the base for wider applications of IoT in the infrastructure development of Somalia.
