The two surveys randomly collected data from women aged 20 to 35 years in seven provinces in Kenya (Nairobi, Nyanza, Western, Coast, Central, Eastern and Rift Valley. The objective was to obtain nationally representative samples for rural and urban women and men. The Family planning tracking survey was carried out alongside the HIV/AIDS survey; hence the sampling plan was combined.
