RISA Fund’s work in Kenya has demonstrated the transformative potential of coordinated evidence-driven interventions in strengthening the national research and innovation ecosystem. By supporting institutional leadership, promoting research commercialisation, enabling end-to-end venture support, and integrating gender and social inclusion, RISA has laid the foundation for a more inclusive, resilient, and market-oriented innovation landscape. The programme’s emphasis on data-driven decision-making and ecosystem intelligence has improved investor confidence, guided policy development, and informed strategic investments, while initiatives such as accelerator programs, blended financing models, and technology access funds have directly addressed persistent barriers faced by innovators. The lessons from Kenya underscore the importance of embedding sustainable financing mechanisms, systemic GESI approaches, and cross-sector collaboration to ensure that research outputs translate into tangible socio-economic impact. Moving forward, sustaining these gains will require continued ecosystem-wide commitment, regional collaboration, and the scaling of proven models to replicate Kenya’s successes across the broader East African innovation landscape.
