"Kukunor Ni Tsu" (Trash to Treasure): an African Collaborative Smartphone Documentary Preserving the Krobo Community's Beadmaking Experiences in Ghana

In this exegesis, a first-time filmmaker and former Krobo bead maker engages the Ghanaian Krobo community in opportunities to articulate their unique stories about their culture and heritage from their own perspectives. Over the years, non-African filmmakers with an interest in the continent and a determination to breaking away from colonial film structures have struggled for independence as creative professionals. The documentary Kukunor ni Tsu, explores the recycling of glass into beads for both ceremonial and retail purposes. People who hitherto had limited or no access to digital tools are now exposed to screen production and storytelling through smartphones.
