This qualitative research study examines the socio-linguistic landscape of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Using a semiotic and critical discourse analysis approach, the study explores how language is used to construct identity and shape the cultural landscape of the city. The findings reveal that language as a powerful tool for shaping social and cultural identity, and that the linguistic landscape of Port Harcourt reflects the complex and diverse identities of its inhabitants. This study contributes to the understanding of the relationship between language, identity, place and has implications for policy and practice in the city. Using the selective purposive sampling technique that focuses on signs as text and visual graphics created to display information to a particular audience, that is manifested in the form of finding information in places such as streets or outside buildings, walls, boards, street signs; The study addresses the problem of a lack of understanding of the relationship between language, identity, and place in Port Harcourt. It has implications for policymakers in terms of promoting language diversity and cultural expression in the city. The results suggest that linguistic diversity is an important aspect of the cultural landscape of Port Harcourt, and that promoting this diversity can have positive effects on the city's social and economic development.
