Language Policy and Education in Multilingual Equatorial Guinea: Implications for Outcomes

Equatorial Guinea is a multilingual African state where multiple languages are used in official contexts and education. A mixed-method approach combining qualitative interviews with government officials and quantitative analysis of national education data. The proportion of students speaking the official language at home is significantly higher among those who perform better academically. Language policies play a crucial role in educational success, highlighting the importance of linguistic environment on learning outcomes. Developing bilingual education programmes and enhancing teacher training in both national languages can improve academic performance.
