Статья посвящена языковой политике в Южно-Африканской Республике (ЮАР), акцентируется внимание на роли 11 официальных языков в различных сферах общества. Конституция ЮАР, принятая в 1996 году, гарантирует равные возможности для всех официальных языков, однако реальная ситуация свидетельствует о преобладании языков банту, что подчеркивает необходимость поддержки 9 автохтонных языков. Анализируется состояние языковой политики, меры, принятые правительством для поощрения использования автохтонных языков в образовании, политике, экономике и СМИ. Особое внимание уделяется сфере образования, где рассматриваются сложности, возникающие в контексте мультилингвального общества и требований к преподаванию на разных языках. Также обсуждается важность английского языка как универсального средства коммуникации, а также различия в доступе к языковому обучению в зависимости от социального статуса. Статья подчеркивает, что знание английского языка в ЮАР приобрело престиж, а процесс обучения языкам структурирован на основе различных моделей преподавания. The article is devoted to language policy in the Republic of South Africa (RSA), focusing on the role of the 11 official languages in various areas of society. The Constitution of South Africa, adopted in 1996, guarantees equal opportunities for all official languages, but the real situation shows the predominance of Bantu languages, which emphasises the necessity to support the 9 autochthonous languages. The state of language policy and the measures taken by the government to promote the use of autochthonous languages in education, politics, the economy and the media are analysed. Particular attention is given to the field of education, examining the complexities encountered in the context of a multilingual society and the demands of teaching in different languages. The importance of English as a universal means of communication is also discussed, as well as differences in access to language learning according to social status. The article emphasises that proficiency in English in South Africa has gained prestige and that the process of language learning is structured around different teaching models.
