Abstract
Health and safety management has become a defining factor in sustainable organisational performance, yet in many workplaces, it remains a secondary concern. This study explores how leadership responsibility and management commitment influence occupational health and safety (OHS) practices and employee behaviour. Using a mixed-methods approach, both quantitative survey data and qualitative feedback were analysed to assess how training, communication, and leadership accountability shape safety outcomes.
Findings revealed that organisations with engaged leadership and consistent health and safety training record lower accident rates and higher employee morale. Conversely, limited managerial follow-through and inconsistent supervision were linked to poor compliance and low staff confidence. The study concludes that visible leadership commitment, backed by training and employee empowerment, is key to embedding a culture of safety. Recommendations include integrating OHS into strategic management, establishing leadership-led training systems, and promoting a shared sense of responsibility for workplace well-being.
