In 2023, the eldest Russian scholar in the field of African Studies R.N. Ismagilova celebrated her 95th birthday. For the past 73 years her life has been dedicated to studying and researching of diverse social, cultural, ethnic and political processes evolving in Africa. She is the author of an impressive number of academic books and other fundamental research materials, on both individual African countries and the problems characteristic for the region as a whole. As a social anthropologist, Prof. R.N. Ismagilova, DSc, currently focuses her attention on the analysis of ethnic problems as well as on the issues relating to the functioning of traditional political and sociocultural institutions and their role in modern society, in particular, in the aspect of conflict resolution.
