This study examined the implications of insecurity on the attainment of quality education in Northeast Nigeria, with particular focus on the BAY States (Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States) which have been profoundly affected by the insurgency of Boko Haram since 2009. The protracted conflict has generated widespread violence, displacement, destruction of infrastructure, and deep social fragmentation, all of which have severely disrupted educational systems across the region. Despite numerous interventions by government and international agencies, access to quality education remains critically compromised, with millions of children out of school and many more experiencing diminished learning outcomes. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design and was conducted across selected states in the Northeast geopolitical zone. The population comprised 23,838 respondents, including teachers, senior secondary school students, and education administrators. A multistage sampling technique yielded a sample of 742 respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire titled Insecurity and Quality Education Questionnaire (IQEQ), was validated by experts and tested for reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.82). Descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) were used to answer the research questions, while linear and multiple regression analyses were employed to test four null hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that insecurity in Northeast Nigeria is characterized by armed attacks on schools, kidnappings of students and staff, destruction of facilities, threats to educational personnel, and forced school closures. The results indicated that insecurity has significantly reduced students’ access to education through increased dropout rates, irregular attendance, displacement, and parental withdrawal of children from school. Insecurity significantly predicts students’ access to education (R² = 0.384), instructional delivery (R² = 0.336), and academic performance (R² = 0.423), while collectively accounting for 50.4% of the variance in educational outcomes. The study concluded that insecurity constitutes a systemic threat to quality education in Northeast Nigeria, affecting access, instructional processes, and learning outcomes simultaneously. It was recommended strengthen school security measures, expansion of alternative learning programs, targeted teacher support schemes, and comprehensive psychosocial and remedial interventions to safeguard the educational future of the region.
