The objective of this scoping review is to understand the extent of evidence available on the type of medication errors (MEs), rate of MEs, and factors contributing to MEs by patients or caregivers in African homes. Medications are generally administered by patients themselves or by caregivers to patients in patients' homes. However, little is known about the type of MEs, rate of MEs and factors contributing to MEs in the home setting in Africa where overcrowded outpatient clinics and low health literacy are expected to significantly contribute to a higher incidence of MEs leading to increased morbidity and mortality.
