Jiban K. Pal and Mohamad Mostafa highlighted in their presentation “Mitigating Equity Challenges to Foster Open Science Practices in Emerging Countries” the current landscape of data repositories in emerging communities, the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, and the challenges surrounding the global adoption of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs).

Mohamad showcased DataCite’s Global Access Fund (GAF) and its role in supporting regions currently underrepresented in the global Open Science infrastructure. He also presented examples of GAF awardees from Tunisia and Kenya.

This presentation was part of Session 9: Empowering the Global Data Community for Impact, Equity, and Inclusion, chaired by Matthew Mayernik, during International Data Week, held in Brisbane, Australia, from 13–16 October 2025.
