We applied transect walks approach to gather data about ecosystem services of economic importance across NAP. The challenges in relation to each ecosystem service are identified, as well. We present insights on mitigation measures to anticipate climate issues across NAP landscape. We found that climate change is still diversly affecting NAP surrounding dwellers. The environmental changes observed are temperature increase, precipitation fluctuations and weather phenomena extremes, have significant impacts on water resources, aquatic species and the livelihood activities of dwellers. Dependence on NAP ecosystems is important for livelihood and well-being. As adaptation perspective to cope climate challenges, we found at least seven Nakambé Ecosystem Services (NES) across NAP, while defining specific variable to each of them. Activities like fishing, irrigated cropping and livestock farming are closely dependent on the resources provided by NAP river. However, this dependence makes dwellers particularly vulnerable to environmental and climate change. Otherwise, eight adaptation and mitigation measures identified play a crucial role in their ability to face environmental challenges. Those adaptation measures are successful for three climate risks. Assumptions related to successful adaptation measures are three, namely improved effectiveness of adaptation measures implemented, adverse environmental impacts, and maintenance of sustained production. Such outcomes require coping strategies to adapt to environmental impacts of climate change in that riverine socio-ecological system.
