Naturally occuring FC forms

These files, recordings of naturally occurring FC forms, accompany the forthcoming article (JALL) Saying ‘more than usual’ by saying less than expected: Utterance-final conjoint forms in Xhosa and Southern Ndebele     Participants gave their permission for their names and recordings to be shared. The third example is a clip from a show.   Ndidinwe A recording from the mother (Liziwe) of one of the authors, where she explains she has just come home from kula mzi usebenza gqithi, ndilibala nesiqu esi sam ‘That house that works a lot, I even forget my own body’. She then says something else after, unrelated to tiredness and work. Then she explains that she is lying in bed and very tired – ndidinwe! The context of the recording was that the author had reminded her of something she had forgotten to respond to. Note that this form would also be acceptable in a totally out-of-the-blue context.   Ndilambe Nasiphi walked into the cafe, greeted the barista, leaned on the counter and said to her ndilambe!
