The Niger Delta remains central to Nigeria's economic development due to its vast oil and gas reserves, contributing approximately 70–80% of national revenue. Despite this wealth, the region continues to experience widespread poverty, environmental degradation, and social inequality. This study examines the relationship between oil spillage and environmental justice in the Niger Delta, emphasizing the disproportionate burden of environmental harm on local communities. Adopting a qualitative approach based on secondary data, the study explores regulatory failures, corporate accountability, health implications, and socio-economic disruptions. The findings reveal persistent institutional weaknesses and inadequate environmental governance, resulting in limited access to justice and compensation for affected communities. The study concludes that achieving environmental justice requires strengthened regulatory enforcement, inclusive governance, and sustainable livelihood strategies.
