Nigerian Ethical AI Framework (NEAIF)

The Nigerian Ethical AI Framework (NEAIF) is Nigeria’s first independently developed comprehensive policy for ethical AI development, deployment, and governance. Tailored to Nigeria’s cultural and technological context and built on the foundation set by NAIS, the NEAIF mandates data sovereignty, promotes inclusive innovation, and aligns with global standards like OECD and UNESCO guidelines. Through a phased data residency approach, it minimizes disruption while fostering a local compliance ecosystem. NEAIF positions Nigeria as Africa’s ethical AI leader, inviting collaboration to build a trusted AI future. Note: The NEAIF is still in its early stages. It’s not perfect, nor is it complete. But it’s a living framework, meant to grow through shared critique, local adaptation, and practical application. Like the communities it aims to serve, it is still becoming.
