The Dzaleka Mapping Project was managed and implemented by MapMalawi. It was funded by Facebook’s Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) Community Impact Grant. The project aimed at generating geospatial data that highlighted the provision of basic needs at the Dzaleka refugee camp in Malawi by integrating drones, OpenStreetMap and other geospatial technologies. Centres within or around the refugee camp that allow the refugees to access the different basic needs were mapped out. These included: education, health care, water/sanitation, and buildings/housing. The mapping exercises were completed through the involvement and collaboration with youth groups in Malawi and Africa. This talk was presented at State of the Map US 2022.
