The recording at the center of this item is a funeral song. Mayom was chief of Nyilwak in Panyikango District. He was a very powerful chief; he ruled the two parts of Nyilwak. In his time, during the rule of King Gwang (1917-1944), there was a lot of fighting among the Shilluk villages over the borders between them. Mayom was able to secure his territory and he united the two parts of Nyilwak, Tugo and Thworo. This item consists of a recorded Shilluk song (wav file), accompanied with annotation (in Praat TextGrid) and associated information: metadata, permissions and speaker questionnaire. The associated information is also summarized, in a spreadsheet. The TextGrid annotation includes Shilluk orthography, translation, and comments.
