Pɛrpl Greyps is an audiovisual composition and visual-programmatic artwork developed through doctoral research in composition and artistic research at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Drawing on Akan-Mfantse Kodzi storytelling traditions, the work explores how Indigenous sonic and narrative knowledge can be translated into contemporary audiovisual forms through artistic practice. The composition integrates music, environmental sound, visual narration, digital media, and symbolic imagery to reinterpret oral storytelling structures in a multimodal creative environment. Developed using the Asɛmpayɛtsia methodology, the work serves as an artistic artefact, a visual score, and a demonstration of artistic translation. Rather than reproducing traditional narratives directly, Pɛrpl Greyps reconfigures cultural memory, storytelling logic, and sonic experience into a contemporary audiovisual composition that examines the movement of Indigenous knowledge across oral, visual, sonic, and digital forms. This work forms part of the doctoral thesis “Pɛrpl Greyps”: Kodzi in 3re Beatz (University of Cape Coast, 2023). The full thesis and exegesis are available through the University of Cape Coast institutional repository: hdl.handle.net.
