The paper addresses the Government of Sudan’s policy change on trafficking in persons. Despite previous evidence to the contrary, the Government of Sudan only acknowledged the existence of trafficking in persons on Sudanese territory as recently as 2013. Following its position change on trafficking, the Government of Sudan has passed the Combating Trafficking in Persons Act 2014 and launched the Strategy to Address Human Trafficking, People Smuggling and Kidnapping with UN agencies (hereinafter called the Joint Anti-Trafficking Strategy) and aims to persecute traffickers and support victims of trafficking.
