“Phela u Phelise” is a nurse-led community-based stroke prevention and management intervention aimed at minimizing the impact and extent of stroke in Lesotho. The overall goal of this strategic intervention was to prevent, manage, and minimize the impact and extent of stroke in Lesotho, deliver models of self-management of predisposing factors, and make the best stroke nursing management accessible to all Basotho. The project hypothesizes that among community members with stroke-predisposing factors residing in the Berea communities, an intervention comprising training on stroke prevention and management for SPCs and VHWs, along with community-based stroke education, will lead to improved community knowledge, attitudes, and practices toward stroke, improved risk factor control, and enhanced behavior change communication delivered by SPCs and CHWs within health services and communities.
